In April of 2010 I was approached by Alvin Remmers to participate in building a business that aims to provide media and information in relation to the industry that will grow up around commercial space flight. My end of the project is the development of a magazine style website. The project honestly sounded nuts to me, which of course immediately attracted me to it. I suggested that we bring a designer on board, as I was unwilling to do both the development and the design on this project. My good friend and colleague Steve Mehallo joined the project shortly afterwards.
During the summer, Alvin worked the business side of things, and Steve started designing. In September development of the website started in earnest and by the end of October we have something up and live. There is tons of work to do on the site on every front, in terms of content, design and development. It’s a huge project that will be ongoing for a long time. I have signed on for at least three years, and I hope to turn this into a real capstone to my portfolio of projects. Meanwhile, I have pushed and prodded WordPress to do all sorts of things I have not had to make it do before. This has already yielded rewards on the teaching side of my work.
More on this project later.
