MacWorld 2007 News

iphone.jpgSo, if you have not heard about the new iphone, I am probably not the one to tell you about it. I have been looking forward to MacWorld for the last few months but I have to say I am a little disappointed about the announcements from Apple. It is not that the phone lacks that certain Apple “gotta-have-it-ness” - it has it in spades! But really I like cool tools for making stuff. I took this picture of everyone taking pictures of the iPhone, displayed Mona Lisa style behind glass.filemakerpro.jpg

I did see a lot of other tools for making cool stuff. I spent a bit of time in the FileMaker Pro booth trying to win a free copy of FileMaker Pro Advanced 8.5, but failed to do so. That is ok though, I saw a really cool demo on how to integrate FileMaker Pro with PHP to create some cool dynamic database driven sites fast. Pretty amazing stuff.

I did win an FM transmitter for an iPod from Kensington, which was probably wasted on me. I gave it to my wife, but I doubt it will ever come out of the box. The best swag was definitely the google socks though.

nikon.jpgLook at that lens! Who said size does not matter? There was lots of great hardware and software at the show. Unlike previous years, I felt like I saw a significant amount of up and coming stuff that I had not seen before. A few highlights for me included software for creating cartoons, and software for manging photos in interesting ways. Adobe was there and announced that Creative Suite 3 will be out this spring, but would not be more specific than that.

burntpc.jpg OUCH, a burnt PC. Must be a Dell. Well, at least they rescued the data. These guys were giving away iPod Nanos, but I didn’t win one. Oh well, who needs another stinkin iPod anyhow? They also had a laptop that was rescued from the bottom of the Amazon river. Pretty amazing. Back up your stuff. You don’t want to have to pay for their services.

macbookpro.jpg Cameras, cameras and more cameras everywhere. Forget about privacy. When you think about it, there were probably more cameras there than people. Point and shoot cameras, cameras on display, cameras on phones, cameras built into every mac. So I left my mark on a few Macs. That photo booth software is pretty fun.

On the whole, it was a pretty good MacWorld. I look forward to the rest of 2007 when Apple, among others, will be coming out with great stuff for creative people, rather than just gadgets to feed our inner techno geek. At the very least, this spring we will see the next versions of OS X and Adobe Creative Suite. That will be sweet indeed!

I loved the show, too; but I always do. Don\’t forget to watch Steve Jobs\’ Keynote address on Apple.com. It will get you hooked on the iPhone! This is the push I need to replace my current phone that has a smashed front screen. Like a need a $500 push! Sigh, the price of soothing my inner techno geek. The train ride to & from SF offered a good concentrated dose of friendship; I really enjoyed it!

Great fun to spend the day with you yesterday, Bill. I, on the other hand, was lusting after that phone in the worst way.

I’ll post a couple of sketches on my blog later.
